SIT is a private university with campuses in Tokyo and Saitama prefectures.
Tozen’s SIT local is currently in negotiations with university management over unfair treatment and dismissal of three members of academic staff.
Teachers at SIT formed the local in 2013 to negotiate for better working conditions. The university responded by firing all but one of the union’s members – forcing the local to begin a campaign of industrial action, including leafletting and strikes.
Though the teachers were not able to win their jobs back, they won a substantial cash settlement in implicit recognition of their unfair treatment.
If you work at SIT and would like to join together with your colleagues to demand better conditions for all, or if you’d like to support our work, email case officer Louis Carlet at firstname.lastname@example.org.
